  • Canadian permanent residents must have a valid permanent resident card or permanent resident travel resident travel document (only valid for one single entry if expired or lost)
  • to return to Canada by plane, train, bus, or boat. You are still a permanent resident if your card expires.

What to do if you don’t have a valid PR card or your card is about to expire

To renew a permanent resident card, you must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Canada
  • Be physically present in Canada
  • Have valid passport
  • Have clean criminal record
  • Have proof of a lost or stolen PR card in case of stolen and lost
  • Have photos
  • Have a record of confirmation of permanent residence

 You will receive you card by mail.
