The University of Toronto is a public research university in TorontoOntario, Canada, located on the grounds that surround Queen's Park. It was founded by royal charter in 1827 as King's College, the first institution of higher learning in Upper Canada. Originally controlled by the Church of England, the university assumed its present name in 1850 upon becoming a secular institution. On March 15, 1827, a royal charter was formally issued by King George IV, proclaiming "from this time one College, with the style and privileges of a university for the education of youth in the principles of the Christian Religion to be called King's College." The granting of the charter was largely the result of intense lobbying by John Strachan, the influential Anglican Bishop of Toronto who took office as the college's first president. As a collegiate university, it comprises eleven colleges each with substantial autonomy on financial and institutional affairs and significant differences in character and history. The university also operates two suburban campuses located in Scarborough and Mississauga that offers over 700 undergraduate and 200 graduate programs. In all major rankings, the university consistently ranks in the top ten public universities in the world and as the top university in the country.

Among all the faculties they have, Faculty of arts and science is the main faculty that administers most of the courses. Several notable work in arts and humanities are based at the university such as  Dictionary of Canadian Biography, Collected Works of Erasmus, Records of Early English Drama,  Dictionary of Old English and Anglo-Saxon.

Regarded as one of the best universities in Canada for international students, it’s alumni consist of over half a million globally and most of the famous people like Frederick Banting, James Orbinski and John Mcrae, three Governors General of Canada, five Prime Ministers of Canada, nine foreign leaders, and seventeen justices of the Supreme Court of Canada. Successful Hollywood actors and actress like Victor Garber, Scott Speedman and Stana Katic.

The Department of Language Studies (formerly the Centre for French and Linguistics) includes programs in French, Linguistics, English/Chinese Translation and offers many language courses such as Arabic Egyptian, Arabic Modern Standard, Dutch and Farsi.

The 44 sports teams of the Varsity Blues represent the university in intercollegiate competitions, primarily within U Sports, with ties to gridiron football, rowing, and ice hockey. When it comes to innovation and research, University outstanding research scholars are committed in solving challenges that face us even today and look forward to what is possible for the future. One of the latest innovations and researchers are working at is an injection-free cell therapy for diabetes that visions instead of needing daily insulin injections, people with diabetes could have insulin-producing cells placed back into the body, fixing the problem at its source.
